During the two-day event, delegates will discuss measures to deal with energy scarcity and stabilise the global oil market when there is an increasing demand for oil in emerging economies in the region.
They will also look at policies to promote the efficient use of natural resources of energy, especially low carbon energy.
The meeting takes place at a time when the US – a major APEC economy – has been struggling to cope with the worst oil spill in its history caused by the British Petroleum’s platform explosion at the Gulf of Mexico in April. Therefore, delegates will look at the safety of oil exploitation offshore and the oil spill disaster in the US.
Deputy Minister Hao is scheduled to meet energy officials of APEC member economies and visit Monju nuclear power plant – Japan’s fast breeder reactor.
