A Vietnamese delegation led by the Deputy Head of the Communist Party of Vietnam’s External Relations Commission, Nguyen Manh Hung, attended the 12th international meeting of communist and workers parties (ICWP) in Johannesburg, South Africa from December 3-5.

The meeting, themed “the deepening systemic crisis of capitalism, tasks for Communists in defence of sovereignty, deepening social alliances, and strengthening the anti-imperialist front in the struggle for peace, progress and Socialism”, attracted 49 delegates from 43 countries.

The participants reported on their parties situation and discussed the current political theatre plus measures to promote solidarity and cooperation between parties.

The meeting issued a declaration calling for all social groups to stand together with communists in the struggle for socialism, stating that socialism is the sole solution for the human race. It emphasised that in the context of crisis of capitalism, the reality of building socialism in socialist countries, including Vietnam shows pre-eminence of socialism.

The declaration urges communist and workers parties to focus on five tasks: Promoting the struggle of communist and workers parties and consolidating the trade union movement as well as strengthening cooperation between social groups with peasants and other classes. Stepping up the struggle for peace, and NATO new strategy, destroying nuclear weapon and enhancing solidarity with people from countries which are being threatened by imperialism. Opposing anticommunist moves, protecting the history of communist movements and communism’s contributions to the human race. Reinforcing international mass organisations, such as the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), the World Peace Council (WPC), the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) and the Women’s International Democratic Federation (WIDF) is also a priority.

All the concerned parties attended a special meeting to mark the 17th World Festival of Youth and Students held in South Africa from December 13-21.
During their time in South Africa, the Vietnamese delegation met with the General Secretary of the South African Communist Party, Blade Nzimande, who said that his country always attaches a lot of importance to fostering ties of friendship and cooperation with Vietnam. They also met with many other international delegations.
