Vietnamese Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh received his Singaporean counterpart Ng Eng Hen, who is on an official visit to the country.

At the meeting, General Thanh spoke highly of the visit, saying he hopes that it will contribute to bolstering mutual understanding and create a foundation to enhance the traditional friendship between the armies and people of the two countries.

Both sides agreed to promote the exchange of delegations, military technology and intelligence work.

They also agreed to share experience in coping with non-traditional security challenges and strengthening the traditional friendship and cooperation between the armies and people of the two countries.

**Later the same day, the Singaporean delegation was received by State President Truong Tan Sang.

The State leader expressed his delight at the socio-economic performance of the neighbouring country and appraised the role of Singapore in the ASEAN community.

He wished that bilateral relations between the two countries’ armies would continue to grow and flourish.

For his part, the Singaporean minister congratulated Sang on his election as State President.

Since 2009, Vietnam and Singapore have carried out a lot of activities to boost defence ties, he said, expressing his wish that relations between the two countries would further develop in the future.
