In the 1999-2009 period, two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Argentina saw a constant increase, from US$11.52 million to US$ 653.2 million.

On July 20, new Vietnamese Ambassador to Argentina Nguyen Van Dao presented his credentials to Argentine President Cristina Fernandez in Buenos Aires.

At a reception for the new Vietnamese diplomat, the Argentine President said she looks forward to visiting Vietnam in November and seeing the development of the Southeast Asian nation.

The Argentine President asked Mr Dao to convey her warming regards to her Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Minh Triet.

For his part, Mr Dao said it is a great honour for him to assume his post as new Vietnamese Ambassador to Argentina at a time when relations between the two countries are growing well.

The same day, Mr Dao laid wreaths at the monument for Argentina’s national hero San Martin and attended a reception for new ambassadors hosted by the Argentine Foreign Ministry.

Over the last decade, remarkable progress has been made in Vietnam-Argentina relations through the exchange of visits by senior leaders, including former Argentine President Carlos Menem’s visit to Hanoi in 1997, former Vietnamese State President Tran Duc Luong and former National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Van An’s visits to Argentina in 2004 and 2006 respectively and the most recent visit to Argentina by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, just three months ago.
