Vietnam, Argentina look to stronger comprehensive partnership
VOV.VN - Vietnam and Argentina discussed measures to further deepen their Comprehensive Partnership during a farewell meeting between Vice State President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and Argentine Ambassador to Vietnam Marcos Antonio Bednarski on June 17.
At the meeting, Xuan reaffirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to its Comprehensive Partnership with Argentina. She noted that bilateral ties have continued to grow across multiple areas over more than 50 years of diplomatic relations and more than a decade under the Comprehensive Partnership framework.
Congratulating Bednarski on the successful completion of his mission in Vietnam, the Vice State President applauded his contributions to strengthening exchanges at various levels, expanding links between ministries, sectors and localities, and enhancing coordination at multilateral forums, including the United Nations and regional cooperation mechanisms.
Highlighting Vietnam's role in ASEAN and Argentina's position in Latin America, the host expressed hope that both nations will work together to advance cooperation between ASEAN and the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR), while facilitating negotiations on trade arrangements between Vietnam and the bloc.
Economic, trade and investment ties remain key pillars of bilateral relations, noting that two-way trade has recorded positive results in recent years. However, considerable potential remains, particularly in agriculture, and she called for further efforts to promote balanced, sustainable and mutually beneficial trade, Xuan told her guest.
The Vice State President also urged the early conclusion and implementation of agreements currently under negotiation, including those on double taxation avoidance, aviation and sanitary and phytosanitary measures, to provide a stronger legal framework for economic and investment cooperation.
She further called for closer links among business associations, enterprises and localities through cultural, tourism and trade promotion activities, while expressing Vietnam's interest in expanding cooperation with Argentina in science and technology, innovation, education, culture, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.
The host leader also voiced hope that political and diplomatic cooperation, including high-level visits and exchanges at all levels, will further expand, and expressed her wish to welcome the Argentine President to Vietnam at an appropriate time to discuss long-term strategic directions for bilateral relations.
For his part, Bednarski thanked the Vietnamese leadership and partners for their support throughout his tenure and spoke warmly of Vietnam and its people. He noted the strong interest of Vietnamese people in Argentine culture, particularly football and tango.
The ambassador welcomed the positive progress in bilateral relations, especially in politics, trade, agriculture, education and cultural exchanges. He said the opening of Argentina's Office of the Agricultural Attaché in Vietnam reflected the importance Buenos Aires attaches to ties with Vietnam.
Bednarski also expressed hope that Vietnam will support Argentina's accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and reiterated his country's interest in accelerating negotiations on a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) between Vietnam and MERCOSUR.
He said fuller use of the two countries' cooperation potential will help bring bilateral ties to greater depth and effectiveness while delivering tangible benefits to their people and businesses.
