At the invitation of the Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Argentinean Deputy Foreign Minister Victorio Jose Taccetti visited Vietnam from June 2-3 as part of a mechanism for political consultations between the two foreign ministries.

During his visit, Mr Taccetti held talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Binh Minh, met with Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Huu Hao and Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Huynh Vinh Ai and attended the opening of the "Ceramic Road along the Red River"- a project celebrating the 1,000 birthday of Hanoi.

The ministers briefed each other on the current situation in their respective countries discussed measures to implement agreements reached during PM Nguyen Tan Dung’s visit to Argentina in April and to prepare for the upcoming visit to Vietnam of Argentina’s leaders.

They reviewed recent bilateral cooperation in economics, trade, investment, culture, science and technology and agreed to accelerate negotiations for agreements on technical cooperation, education and training, and sports in order to cement a long-term and stable cooperation between the two countries.

The two compared notes on regional and global issues of common concern and affirmed their commitment to mutual support within international organisations and multilateral forums such as the UN and the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and cooperation between ASEAN and Mercosur known as the common market of the south.

Vietnam and Argentina agreed to hold the third session of the Inter-Government Committee in Hanoi this year and Vietnam will send an inter-sector delegation to visit Argentina in August to boost economic and trade cooperation and share experience in negotiating on economic and trade issues.
