Vietnam is an important pillar in India’s “Look East” policy, said a senior Indian diplomat at a reception in Hanoi on January 26 to mark the 57th anniversary of India's National Day.

Bilateral relations will be further strengthened in future not only at the state level, but also between the two countries’ people, said Kumar Tuhin, Chargé d' affaires of the Indian Embassy in Hanoi.

Vietnamese Minister of Fisheries Ta Quang Ngoc expressed his belief that under the leadership of the Indian government led by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Abdul Kalam, Indian people will obtain greater achievements and the country’s image will be further enhanced in regional and international arena.

Minister Ngoc said he believes that traditional relations and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and India will be raised to a new height in 2007 through high-level exchange visits and determination by the leadership and people of both countries.
