Ambassador Le Hoang Trung, Vietnam's permanent representative to the UN, said this at the March 16 session of the United Nations General Assembly, which discussed a report from a high-level panel on global sustainability presented by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
Ambassador Trung touched upon urgent issues related to the environment, integration for economic growth and social justice that have been mentioned in discussions, decisions, and important international conferences as well as numerous national development strategies. He said Vietnam has recorded encouraging progress in many fields during its comprehensive reform process that began in the mid 1980s.
The proposals in the committee's report put forth specific measures highlighting the right to choose models for sustainable development and strengthen institutional management.
These proposals have contributed significantly to creating and implementing development policies at national and international levels and Vietnam is ready to cooperate with the UN and other partners to speed up their implementation, he added.
