The Viet Minh Front united people from all walks of life, as well as ethnic minority, and religious groups in the fight against French colonialists, that culminated in the success of the 1945 August Revolution and the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, the first of its kind in Southeast Asia.

This was confirmed by Huynh Dam, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, at a meeting celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Vietnam Independence Alliance Association (Viet Minh Front) in Hanoi on May 19.

He noted that that the Viet Minh Front was closely associated with Vietnam’s glorious history in the 20th century.

Now, he said, the Vietnam Fatherland Front will spare no effort to fulfill its tasks of strengthening the great national unity bloc and promoting international cooperation.

The VFF will join hands with the Party and State to successfully implement the Resolution of the 11th National Party Congress, the socioeconomic development strategy for the 2011-2020 period, and the Political Platform for the period of transition to socialism.

Many participants in the meeting recalled the Party Central Committee’s 8th session in 1941, chaired by Nguyen Ai Quoc in Cao Bang, which decided to establish the Viet Minh Front.

Also at the meeting, the Party and State granted the Independence Order to Vo Oanh, a former member of the Central Committee of the National United Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam and Phan Tat Tuan, a former member of the VFF Central Committee.
