Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan leads Vietnamese delegation at 7th CICA Summit
VOV.VN - Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan led the Vietnamese delegation and delivered a speech at the 7th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), which opened in Baku, Azerbaijan, on October 15.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev welcomed heads of state and delegation leaders attending the summit. In his welcoming address, the host President welcomed Laos's admission to CICA, viewing it as a clear recognition of the organization's regional connectivity role.
Laos officially joined CICA one day before the opening, becoming its 29th member state and expanding the summit's geographical reach.
The 7th CICA Summit is scheduled to discuss strengthening trust, peace, and security in Asia, including jointly dealing with existing challenges and threats.
The conference will place special emphasis on the institutional development of the organization, enhancing its role and operational efficiency across Eurasia, and concrete measures to develop transport connectivity. Digitalization, sustainable economic growth, climate change, and green energy development were also featured on the agenda.
The participation of leaders from Central Asia and other member states, alongside foreign ministers from China and Türkiye, offers favorable conditions to discuss pressing international issues and strengthen multilateral cooperation. Focus centers on identifying shared solutions to global crises and geopolitical instability, alongside the role of dialogue and mutual trust in ensuring regional security.
Amid current geopolitical uncertainties and an increasingly complex, unpredictable international and regional environment, Asian nations seek to preserve peace and stability while supporting economic growth.
The summit is expected to adopt the Baku Declaration, affirming the forum's importance in discussing both current challenges and practical solutions to global crises.
Vietnam joined CICA as an observer in 1993 and became a full member in 2010. Since joining, the country has regularly attended CICA summits at the Vice Presidential level, while participating in ministerial meetings, senior officials' committee sessions, special working groups, and specialized meetings across relevant ministries and sectors.
Within CICA, Vietnam promotes the image of a responsible member, actively engaging in resolving regional and international issues. The CICA Secretariat and member states highly appreciate Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements, as well as its standing, prestige, and responsible contributions to handling complex regional and global issues.
In recent times, CICA has continued to assert its role in advancing equal dialogue and bolstering cooperation among member states, helping prevent crises and shaping confidence-building measures against non-traditional security threats. The forum operates on a policy coordination basis, with commitments established on a voluntary foundation.
