Vice Chairman of the Vietnam National Assembly of Vietnam Nguyen Van Yeu received a visiting delegation of the Swedish Parliament's Committee for External Affairs in Hanoi on March 5.

Deputy Chairman Yeu thanked the Swedish Government and people for their support and assistance to Vietnam in its struggle for national freedom as well as in the current process of national development.

He expressed his wish that the two countries' parliaments would continue exchanging visits to boost mutual understanding and cooperation in various fields.

The parliamentarian delegation, headed by its member Aleksander Gabelic, who is also President of the United Nations Association of Sweden, expressed their desire to learn about Vietnam’s development plans. The MPs praised Vietnam’s efforts in reducing poverty and suffering many social issues.

Earlier, the Swedish delegation held talks with a delegation of the Vietnamese NA Committee for External Affairs. The two sides worked on the implementation of Sweden's cooperation and development projects concerning poverty reduction, health care, legal assistance, communication and environmental protection in Vietnam.

During the March 4-10 visit, the Swedish MPs plan to learn about Vietnam's implementation of Millennium Development Goals and the pilot initiative of a UN organisation in the framework of the UN reform programme.
