President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Pham The Duyet has congratulated local Muslims on their Raya Eidil Adha Festival and expressed his wish that the Vietnamese Islamic community will make more contributions to the country.

In a congratulatory letter on December 28, Mr Duyet wrote that in 2006 Vietnam recorded a high economic growth rate, became the 150th member of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and successfully organised the 14th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Hanoi.

He attributed the success to the great efforts made by the entire people in the bloc of great national unity, including the Islamic community. He praised the community for actively responding to VFF-launched emulation movements and humanitarian campaigns such as “The entire people unite to build a new cultural lifestyle in residential areas”, “Day for the Poor” and “Paying debts and gratitude”, as well as other social programmes to combat crime, social evils and HIV/AIDS.

Mr Duyet expressed his belief that the Vietnamese Islamic community will continue activities for a "better secular and religious life" in the coming years, thereby contributing to the country’s Doi Moi (Renewal) process for the goal of building a strong country, rich people and an equitable, democratic and civilised society.
