US Ambassador: President Sang’s visit a success

US Ambassador to Vietnam David Shear has stated that the recent US visit by President Truong Tan Sang is a success with a series of high-level exchanges.

Meeting with the media in Hanoi on August 8, Ambassador Shear noted that the two sides have issued a joint statement on the establishment of Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership, with specific cooperation content for each field.

According to the ambassador, in order to realise agreements reached by the Vietnamese and US leaders, a series of meetings will take place from now until the end of this year between the two nations’ relevant agencies. They are also due to complete Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement negotiations.

He said the over US$25 billion trade turnover in 2012 and an annual 10% growth in bilateral trade reflect a considerable improvement in the two countries’ commercial ties.

The diplomat added that Vietnam’s exports to TPP member economies will increase significantly as soon as the TPP agreement is signed. The country will also attract more foreign investment from these economies.
