Upgrading Vietnam-Singapore ties is a strategic step: Singaporean expert
VOV.VN - Professor Bilveer Singh, deputy head of the Department of Political Science at the National University of Singapore, has given a positive assessment of the outcomes of General Secretary To Lam’s official visit to Singapore, which concluded on March 13.

Regarding the significance of Vietnam and Singapore upgrading their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the visit, Professor Bilveer Singh viewed this as a strategic step, underscoring the strong ties and close relationship between the two nations.
He noted that Vietnam-Singapore relations have now become truly comprehensive, spanning politics, economy, science and technology, culture, and society. The strategic nature of the partnership lies in its broader impact and added value for both the region and the world.
While bilateral ties are significant, he emphasized that their greater value lies in contributing to regional stability and development. Despite some differences, Vietnam and Singapore share many commonalities, enabling them to exchange ideas, share experience, and learn from each other. In political science and economics, this translates into complementarity and comparative advantages.
To unlock the full potential of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, Professor Bilveer Singh stressed the importance of strengthening people-to-people diplomacy.
He highlighted that while General Secretary To Lam’s visit demonstrated closer government-to-government relations, there is still ample room to enhance ties at the people-to-people level.
Additionally, he underlined the need for both nations to clearly define strategic issues and prevent them from affecting bilateral relations. Bridging gaps and strengthening community engagement will also be crucial in further deepening the Vietnam-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
