The National Assembly (NA) is scheduled to convene its 5th session in Hanoi on May 20 and expected to pass 12 bills, said NA Office Chairman Tran Dinh Dan at the closing session of the NA Standing Committee in Hanoi on May 14.

The bills include those on public debt management, criminal record, State compensation, urban planning, intellectual property rights, Vietnamese representative offices abroad, and amendments to the Penal Code, some articles of the housing law and the land law, the cinema law, the cultural heritage law, the law on capital construction investment, and the law on cryptography.

The NA will also give opinions on bills on medical examination and treatment, radio frequency and telecommunications.

Mr Dan said that the NA will consider adjusting the GDP growth rate, State budget overspending and additional Government bond issuance for this year. The unemployment situation and recent results of the poverty reduction programmes will be also discussed during the session.

The legislative body plans to spend two and a half days questioning Cabinet members on issues of public concern.
