She inquired into the living conditions of several ethnic people who had fled to Cambodia and returned to their homes and also met with ethnic patients at Buon Don District Medical Centre and several households of ethnic groups who have benefited from Buon Dong Lake’s irrigation project. She also called on students of different ethnic groups at the Vocational Training School and the No Trang Long Boarding School.
She said the fact-finding tour helped her better understand the Vietnamese State’s policies for ethnic groups with the aim of establishing stable lives and increased productivity for Central Highlanders, particularly those in Dak Lak province. She also agreed that only ethnic people of low education levels had been incited to illegally cross the border into Cambodia.
She suggested that Dak Lak devise more preferential policies to help local people improve their knowledge and education. She said she will report what she has seen and heard during the tour to the UNHCR so that the international community will have an accurate understanding of Vietnamese State policies for Central Highlanders, particularly for returnees.
