Ms Migiro made the appreciation on the sidelines of the High-Level Segment of the High-Level Tripartite Conference on DaO that took place in Hanoi on June 16.
“In Vietnam, we can see more than that. We have seen strong government leadership that contributed to the success,” she said.
According to her, the key to the success of the DaO in Vietnam is the strong partnership between the government, the UN and the donors.
While reckoning that the huge success of the eight pilot countries will generate interests from other countries in adopting the DaO approach, Ms Migiro pointed out challenges ahead and urged parties to increase more coordination at the national level.
“We have to work together to ensure adequate resources to finance the areas priortised that have been identified by the countries,” the UN official concluded.
The DaO approach was launched by the UN and has been piloted by eight countries, namely Albania, Cape Verde, Pakistan, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uruguay and Vietnam since 2007 to improve the coherence, effectiveness and relevance of the UN’s operations in these countries.
The Hanoi conference has brought together more than 260 participants from countries that have adopted the DaO’s approach, as well as donors, several UN agencies, international organisations and diplomatic missions in Vietnam.
