On July 25, Truong Tan Sang was elected State President of Vietnam by the 13th National Assembly (NA) for the 2011-2016 term with 97.4 percent of the votes.

In his speech after taking office, newly-elected Truong Tan Sang expressed his thanks for the NA’s confidence, saying his new position is a great honour and a noble mission assigned by the Party, State and people.

Despite facing many difficulties and challenges during the 12th term, Vietnam gained tremendous achievements under the Party leadership that helped the country shed its status as an under-developed nation, improve living standards, reinforce national unity, maintain socio-political stability, and ensure independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, thereby raising its international status.

Mr Sang emphasized that former State President Nguyen Minh Triet made positive contributions to the nation’s achievements.
