The 35th anniversary of the liberation of the Truong Sa (Spratly Islands) was celebrated on Truong Sa island on April 16 in the presence of Senior Major-General Bui Van Huan, Director of the Political General Department along with representatives from different ministries, sectors and local people.

35 years ago, in the Spring general uprising in 1975 after the sweeping victories in Buon Me Thuot, Hue, Danang, and Khanh Hoa, naval commandos landed on the morning of April 14, 1975 to liberate Song Tu Tay island. After a 30 minute fight, Vietnamese naval forces fully controlled the island, paving the way for liberating the Truong Sa islands on April 29, 1975.

Since 1975, drastic changes have been seen in Truong Sa island district with economic development projects underway to build airports, quays, hydro-meteorology stations, satellite TV receivers and clean energy systems.

The House in commemoration of Late President Ho Chi Minh, the monuments of martyrs, the Capital Guest House, Truong Sa and Song Tu Tay pagodas have become public places for local people to hold cultural exchanges.

In particular, many collectives, individuals and soldiers in the island district have been presented with many distinctive awards by the State President and the Prime Minister in recognition of their contributions to the district’s development.
