The second round of talks on the trans-Pacific strategic economic partnership agreement is being held in San Francisco, the US, on June 14-16 with senior officials from Australia, Brunei, Chile, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, Vietnam and the host country the US.

Various issues were discussed at the talks including technical barriers in trade activities, ways of accessing markets, trans-national services and the environment.

Since the first round of talks, US legislators and nearly 100 businesses and economic groups have made a lot of effort to reach an agreement in 2011 because they said that the US is lagging behind its competitors, such as the EU and China in establishing free investment and trade agreements.
