Training course for peacekeeping lecturers

VOV.VN -  A two-week UN Capacity-Building Pre-Deployment Training Course in English was held from October 24-November 4 to  provide basic knowledge about peacekeeping operations for Vietnamese peacekeeping lecturers.

Colonel Hoang Kim Phung, Director of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Centre, thanked UN agencies for their support to Vietnam in joining peacekeeping activities, especially the Department of Peacekeeping Operations and the Department of Field Support, which sent their experts to the course.

He said Vietnam has run training courses and dispatched officers to overseas classes in preparation for the UN missions. The country officially joined the UN peacekeeping activities in 2014 and dispatched 83 officials to join short-term training courses at the invitation of the UN and in the framework of regional and international cooperation.

12 Vietnamese officials have engaged in UN peacekeeping operations in South Sudan and Central African Republic.

Vietnam is actively preparing for the training and purchase of equipment for the second-level field hospital and a company of sappers to engage in peacekeeping missions when needed.

The nation is also focusing on training female soldiers to serve the UN peacekeeping missions in the future.
