The Institute of International Relations (IIR) has completed a five-day course on improving multilateral development diplomacy capacity for foreign relations officers of 30 northern and central provinces and cities.

The course, which ended in Hanoi on December 29, is part of the "Strengthening Capacities for Multilateral Development Diplomacy (MDD)" project funded by the UN Development Programmes and the French Government.

During the course, trainees were provided with basic knowledge of multilateral negotiation and report-making in English, multilateral diplomacy for economic purpose, globalisation in developed countries as well as skills in chairing international conferences.

The course helped local foreign relation officers improve their understanding about multilateral diplomacy for development, said Do Van Bach, Director of the project.

This was the last of 15 training courses held by the IIR and the Foreign Ministry under the framework of the MDD project which started in 2003. The project also helped build an information centre for the IIR.
