Mr Sang was speaking at the 8th conference of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) in Hanoi on January 5.
The trade unions should improve the quality of information dissemination to help employees further understand Party guidelines and State policies concerning their rights and obligations, said the State President.
He encouraged the unions to take a more active part in finalizing laws and policies for employees, pay due attention to building their organisations at the grassroots level and renew union activities in all forms of businesses.
He also praised the VGCL for its significant contributions to building trade unions at all levels, strengthening links between the Party and State and employees.
These trade unions have inquired about employee aspirations and concerns and made recommendations to the Party and State to introduce appropriate policies in the interest of employees.
However, the Vietnamese working class has shown shortcomings which need to be addressed in the coming years. Notably, employee workmanship does not keep up with technological development; employees are still dissatisfied with their work and living conditions, and relations between employers and employees in some businesses remain complicated.
The State President asked the VGCL to carefully examine issues to meet the requirements of the Renewal process and make breakthroughs in workers’ movements.
