State President Nguyen Minh Triet has called on individuals and organisations to join hands with the Party and State to reduce the poverty rate in the country.

Addressing a charity programme in the northern midland province of Phu Tho on April 22, Mr Triet appealed to the generosity of benefactors to help poor and underprivileged people across the country, including those in Phu Tho.

He said even though the war ended 35 years ago, many Vietnamese people have still lived hard lives due to the consequences of war.

“Whether the help is big or small, it will be significant as it help the poor improve their lives,” said Mr Triet.

He praised Phu Tho for its efforts to overcome the aftermath of war and fight poverty. Over the past 10 years, the province has replaced 12,000 makeshift houses, built infrastructure facilities for poor people and reduced the poverty rate to 13 percent.

Mr Triet called for a greater effort from the provincial Party Committee, administration and mass organisations to help the poor stabilise their lives and escape poverty.

The same day, President Triet witnessed a signing ceremony for investment agreements on key industrial-service projects between Phu Tho and several giant economic groups and banks of Vietnam.
He also attended the launch of a tree planting campaign at the Hung Kings Temple’s historical monument.
