This was confirmed by Thai deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban, who is in charge of the public security sector, during talks with Minister of Public Security, Le Hong Anh on March 3.

Mr Thaugsuban said that Thailand is ready to attend and is doing its utmost to help Vietnam successfully organise major upcoming events, such as the grand ceremony to mark the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi, the 65th National Day (September 2), the 65th anniversary of the people’s police and ASEAN meetings during the year when Vietnam undertakes the bloc’s presidency. He committed to creating the best conditions for Vietnamese residents who work and live in Thailand.

Minister Anh expressed his delight at the fine development of co-operation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and Thai agencies which have signed a number of agreements, creating a legal framework for both sides to co-operate in maintaining public security in each country.

After the talks, Minister Anh and Thai Minister of Justice, Phraphan Saliratwiphak signed an agreement on co-operation in extraditing and prosecuting criminals.

The agreement marks an important step towards judicial and criminal co-operation between the two countries, creating a legal framework for them to extradite convicts and helping to ensure public security in both countries.
