A delegation from Thailand's Senate led by Tunyaratt Achariyachai, head of the Senate Committee on Tourism, paid a working visit to the central province of Quang Tri on September 23.

The provincial authorities and the Thai delegates discussed ways of boosting cooperation in tourism between Quang Tri and Thai localities.

Nguyen Duc Chinh, vice chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, introduced his guests to the province’s potential for developing its  tourism services, including cultural and ecological tourism. He said that Quang Tri has many popular tourist sites such as the Vinh Moc tunnels, La Vang church, Dak Rong Nature Reserve, Tra Loc Lagoon, and the Cua Tung tourist area.

Mr Chinh called on Thai businesses to explore the opportunities and invest in Quang Tri’s tourism services. He also confirmed that his province wants to increase cooperation in tourism with various Thai provinces and cities.

Ms Achariyachai suggested that Quang Tri learn from Phuket tourist resort’s experience in developing its tourism industry. She said that the resort, which is one of the world’s leading tourist destinations, receives between 5-6 million tourists a year and tourism services make a significant contribution to local socio-economic development.

She expressed her hope that tourism cooperation between Thailand, Phuket and Quang Tri will be promoted in the future.
