The statement was made by Truong Tan Sang, politburo member and member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat during his visit to northern Thai Binh province on June 29 to review the five-year implementation of the Politburo’s Resolution No 54 on socio-economic development and national security in the Red River Delta region until 2010 with a vision for 2020.
Over the past five years, Thai Binh has made great strides in economic development with an average annual GDP growth of 12.02 percent in the 2006-2010 period. Last year’s GDP per capita reached VND 16.1 million, up 2.8 times over 2005.
The province is restructuring its local economy based on a rapidly increasing proportion of industry and decreasing proportion of agricultural production in its economic structure. It currently has many major investment projects in key industrial sectors.
Thai Binh has made remarkable progress in ensuring national security and defence and improving local people’s living standards which has helped reinforce the great national unity bloc.
In his speech, Mr Sang called on the Thai Binh provincial Party Committee and administration to boost socio-economic development and reinforce the national security.
