(VOV) - Vietnam has strong opposed Taiwan’s plans to explore oil and gas on Ba Binh island of the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago, requesting that they immediately cancel the illegal actions.
The statement was made by Luong Thanh Nghi, spokesman of the Vietnam Foreign Ministry, on January 10 while answering media queries on Vietnam’s response to Taiwan’s oil and gas exploration plan on Truong Sa.

Nghi noted that Vietnam has conclusive legal and historical evidence affirming its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes.
Taiwan’s plan to explore oil and gas on Ba Binh island seriously violates Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Truong Sa archipelago, causes tension and complicates the situation in the East Sea, he stated.
