Vietnam hopes to expand cooperation with Mongolia in all fields, said State President Nguyen Minh Triet at a meeting with Chairman of the Mongolian Parliament, Demberel Damdin, on December 15.

President Triet highly appreciated Mr. Damdin’s official visit, saying it will open up new prospects for promoting traditional friendship between the two countries.

Mr. Damdin reported to Mr. Triet the outcomes of the his working session with Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA), Nguyen Phu Trong, during which both parties signed a cooperation agreement between the two parliaments and witnessed the signing of cooperation deals between the two parliamentary offices and agriculture ministries of the two countries.

He also expressed his delight at the significant economic development of Vietnam and hoped to boost cooperation with the country.

The same day, while welcoming Speaker Demberel Damdin and his entourage, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung affirmed that Vietnam wishes to strengthen multifaceted cooperation with Mongolia for mutual benefit.

Vietnam and Mongolia should support each other at multilateral and international forums, PM Dung said, adding that the two countries should also increase high-ranking visits to boost mutual understanding and trade cooperation.

Vietnam will back Mongolia’s hosting of APEC 2011, PM Dung said.

PM Dung  and Sharing Speaker Demberel Damdin’s suggested both countries consider cooperation possibilities in oil and gas exploration and mining. They said the present two-way trade value of US$10 million is not on a par with the two countries’ potential.

Vietnam also wants to increase cooperation in education and training, defence and security with Mongolia, the PM said, asking the inter-governmental committee of the two countries to continue to realise agreements reached to further consolidate and develop bilateral ties.

Speaker Demberel Damdin said Mongolia wants to expand cooperation in other fields with Vietnam.
