State Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan and her entourage have paid a three-day visit to Lai Chau province, which was worst hit by recent floods.

On behalf of the Party and State, Mrs Doan expressed sympathy for the losses suffered by local people and asked local authorities to quickly mobilise resources to help flood victims stabilise their lives. She presented gifts and money to a number of families and mass organizations.

At a working session with provincial leaders, Mrs Doan praised efforts to develop the province in the past five years since it was divided. It has achieved an average annual growth of 12.37 percent, and reduced the number of poor households. Its educational system has improved considerably with the number of pupils who completed a secondary education in 2008-2009 exceeding 85 percent. Mrs Doan urged the party committee, administration and citizens to work together to solve immediate problems.

Mrs Doan and her entourage provided the province with VND150 million in recognition of its recent achievements, presented gifts to social welfare families and visited the provincial social support centre, border post 297 and the Ma Lu Thang national border gate.
