State President wraps up successful trip to UN General Assembly
VOV.VN - State President Luong Cuong, his spouse and high-level Vietnamese delegation on September 24 (local time) left New York City, successfully concluding the working trip to attend the High-Level General Debate of the 80th UN General Assembly and conduct bilateral activities in the United States from September 21 to 24.

Those seeing the delegation off at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York included Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Dung; Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations Do Hung Viet, along with staff of the Embassy and the Permanent Mission.
During the trip, the State President attended the high-level plenary commemorating the UN’s 80th founding anniversary, delivered important speeches at the general debate of the 80th UN General Assembly and at the special global high-level event on climate action. He also held bilateral meetings with leaders of international organizations and countries participating in the UN General Assembly high-level week.
At the general debate in particular, the Vietnamese State leader delivered a keynote address highlighting a message of honouring the value of peace, driving bold transformation to shape a sustainable future. He stressed that over the past 80 years, the United Nations has embodied humanity’s common aspiration for peace, cooperation and development, based on universal values of human rights, national independence, equality, democracy and social progress.
Sharing Vietnam’s story of rising from the ruins of war to pursue the goal of becoming a strong, prosperous and happy nation, the State President affirmed that Vietnam always strives to fulfill its responsibilities and stand alongside all countries to overcome challenges, advance transformation, and build a world of peace, stability, prosperity and sustainability, ensuring happiness and well-being for all peoples.
President Luong Cuong also had a series of bilateral meetings with leaders of countries attending the General Assembly, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres; UN General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock; Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker; Paraguayan President Santiago Peña Palacios; Tajik President Emomali Rahmon; Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov; Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa; Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid; and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
He also met with US leaders, received executives of major American corporations, met with long-time partners and leading scholars, attended a gathering of Vietnamese and American veterans of the war in Vietnam, met with staff of Vietnamese representative missions and outstanding members of the Vietnamese community, and hosted the celebration of Vietnam’s 80th National Day in New York. These activities reaffirmed Vietnam’s policy of further boosting relations with the United States, especially in economics, trade, investment, and science-technology, while accelerating the implementation of agreements and commitments between the two countries’ senior leaders.
The President’s trip was a success both multilaterally and bilaterally, leaving a strong impression of Vietnam’s role, position and substantive contributions to tackling global issues, as well as promoting ties with the United States and other countries in support of peace and development in the region and the wider world.
