State President Nguyen Minh Triet stressed that Kon Tum province must pool all resources to reduce poverty for local people, particularly ethnic minority groups in especially difficult areas.

President Triet was speaking to key leaders of Kon Tum on April 20 during his on-going visit to Central Highlands provinces after Ha Ban, chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, reported on the province’s socio-economic development in the first quarter of the year, juridical reform and preparations for the upcoming National Assembly election.

President Triet highlighted the province’s significant changes in the production structure and development of services. He acknowledged the province’s efforts in improving local people’s spiritual life and healthcare, as well as in maintaining security and social order.

The State President asked the province to boost the development of the industrial sector and key economic zones and create favourable conditions for domestic and foreign investors.

Regarding agricultural development, President Triet urged local authorities to further develop forestry, particularly the rubber acreage to serve the processing industry. They should always listen to people’s concerns and desires to build a strong and comprehensive all-people national defence, he said.

In terms of Party building, President Triet asked local authorities to pay due attention to training ethnic minority officials, particularly women officials and took note of their request for stronger assistance to lift Kon Tum out of its current poor status.

In the afternoon, President Nguyen Minh Triet and his entourage visited the Bo Y International Bordergate Economic Zone, concluding his working visit to Central Highlands provinces.
