At the reception, President Triet congratulated the ambassadors on their new posts and emphasised the State’s policies on strengthening and expanding relations with other nations.
President Triet and the ambassadors discussed bilateral relations and the potential for strengthening comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and other nations, especially in economics, trade and investment for mutual development, and contributing to preserving peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world.
President Triet also asked the ambassadors to actively co-ordinate with relevant Vietnamese agencies to promote the exchange of delegations, share experiences in development, and fully tap the potential and advantages for future cooperation and learning more about the cultures and peoples of each country.
The Thai ambassador emphasized that Thailand attaches importance to strengthening cooperation in economics and trade with Vietnam and pledged to encourage Thai businesses to boost investment in Vietnam.
The Qatar ambassador said that his country’s main focus will be on developing economic relations between the two nations and this will be his prime concern during his term.
The ambassador from Belarus has affirmed that President Nguyen Minh Triet’s visit to Belarus by in 2010 brought positive results, especially with two-way trade increasing by over 30 percent. He also said he will focus on strengthening trade ties and promoting economic cooperation with Vietnam during his term.
Admiring Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements, the Ghana ambassador hopes that Vietnam will share experiences in rice cultivation and aquaculture. The ambassador also stressed prospects for cooperation between Ghana and Vietnam in the field of oil and gas as Ghana became an exporter of crude oil last year.
The ambassador from Paraguay stressed that the upcoming visit to Vietnam by President Fernando Lugo will offer an opportunity for both nations to work on detailed measures to bring their bilateral relations to a new level. He called on promoting cooperation in many fields to help people of both nations learn more about each other.
The Portuguese ambassador expressed delight at the rapid development of the relationship between the two countries. Portugal is opening an honourable consulate in Hanoi and HCM City and will open its embassy in Vietnam in the future.
