State President Nguyen Minh Triet held a working session with the Presidium of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee (VFFCC) in Hanoi on January 25 to review the implementation of cooperation regulations on both sides in the past year and discuss measures to boost cooperation in 2007. Also present was State Vice President Truong My Hoa.

In 2006, the State President closely cooperated with the VFFCC Presidium, helping to strengthen and consolidate the great national unity bloc. The VFFCC president was very active in coordinating with functional agencies to propose to the State President the granting of amnesty to 6,388 prisoners. The cooperation between the State President and the VFFCC Presidium achieved good results in monitoring and supervising the implementation of democratic statutes at the grassroots level.

This year, both sides will focus their cooperation on preparing and successfully organizing the election to the 12th National Assembly, as well as combating corruption, preventing wastefulness and promoting thrift practice.

Speaking at the working session, State President Triet said it is essential to promote cooperation in 2007 in an attempt to mobilise the strength of the whole nation for national construction. In particular, the Vietnam Fatherland Front should make more active contributions to Party building work, he added.

The State President’s Office and the VFFCC worked out key tasks for 2007, focusing on boosting information dissemination, promoting democratic practice and increasing supervision capacity.

President Triet expressed hoped that the Vietnam Fatherland Front will expand external activities to help people in other countries better understand and actively support Vietnam’s renewal process.
