Mr Triet inquired into policies on investment attraction, land clearance, accommodation for employees, treatment of environmental pollution and human resource development at the Beijing Economic and Technical Development Zone which is one of the three new economic zones in the capital city.
Established 15 years ago on an area of 40km2, the zone has attracted more than 2,100 investors with a total investment capitalisation of over US$14 billion. More than 60 global groups have invested in the zone.
Later Mr Triet visited the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Complex, including the 91,000-seat stadium where opening and closing ceremonies, athletic competitions and football games will take place and the 17,000-seat national swimming centre. He praised Beijing authorities and construction workers for their great efforts to speed up the construction work and expressed hope that the Olympic games will be successfully organised by China.
An official ceremony to welcome Mr Triet was held at the Great Hall by Chinese President Hu Jintao. Shortly after that, the two leaders held bilateral talks.
