President Triet is expected to deliver a speech at the General Assembly’s high-level session. He will focus on Vietnam’s measures to carry out its external relations policy adopted at the 10^th National Party Congress with the aim of strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation with other countries and international organisations in solving important issues of mutual concern with a high sense of responsibility.

The Vietnamese State leader is also scheduled to meet with Heads of State, Prime Ministers, heads of delegations and various UN leaders.

The 64^th session of the UN General Assembly takes place in the context of the global economic downturn while it is preparing for its 65^th session and 65^th anniversary in 2010. It will also mark the 10^th years since the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were agreed on at the UN Summit in 2010.
