A Vietnamese delegation led by State President Nguyen Minh Triet will attend the 64th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York from 23-26 September. He will consolidate Vietnam’s bilateral and multilateral relations with other countries, international organisations and deal with a number of issues of international concern.

President Triet is expected to deliver a speech at the General Assembly’s high-level session. He will focus on Vietnam’s measures to carry out its external relations policy adopted at the 10th National Party Congress with the aim of strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation with other countries and international organisations in solving important issues of mutual concern with a high sense of responsibility.

The Vietnamese State leader is also scheduled to meet with Heads of State, Prime Ministers, heads of delegations and various UN leaders.

The 64th session of the UN General Assembly takes place in the context of the global economic downturn while it is preparing for its 65th session and 65th anniversary in 2010. It will also mark the 10th years since the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were agreed on at the UN Summit in 2010.
