State President Nguyen Minh Triet left Hanoi in the morning of 27 February for a three-day official visit to Cambodia at the invitation of King Norodom Sihamoni.

The visit is made after his official visit to Laos three weeks ago with a view to affirming Vietnam’s external relations policy which attaches great importance to  boosting relations of neighbourliness and comprehensive cooperation with neighbouring and regional countries including Cambodia.

The visit is of great significance as it coincides with the celebrations of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Cambodia.

Over the past few years, Vietnam-Cambodia relations have developed positively in both scale and depth under the motto of good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-standing durability.

Export-import turnover between the two countries reached US$940 million in 2006, an increase of 35 percent from a year earlier and it is expected to hit US$2billion by 2010.

President Triet is being accompanied by the Director of the Presidential Office Nguyen Van Chien, Minister of Industry Hoang Trung Hai, Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs, National Defence and Public Security, HCM City leaders and 50 entrepreneurs.
