Mr Triet’s visit aims to implement the Party and State’s open-door policy of diversifying and multilateralising external relations, confirm Vietnam’s commitments to making positive contributions and having sense of responsibility at the UN and raise the country’s status in the international arena.
The State leader is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat, Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and other senior officials.
After attending meetings at the UN, President Triet will make an official visit to Cuba from September 26-29 at the invitation of Cuban President Raul Castro. He will then visit Chile from September 29 to October 1 at the invitation of his Chilean counterpart Michelle Bachelet.
