State President Nguyen Minh Triet has expressed his belief that the Danish Queen's visit to Vietnam will pave the way for increased cooperation and multifaceted ties between the two countries.

At a reception following the official welcome ceremony for her delegation in Hanoi on November 2, Mr Triet congratulated the Danish people on their huge achievements during the reign of Queen Margrethe II, which have turned Denmark into one of the ten most efficient economies in the world.

He sincerely thanked the Danish people for having given the Vietnamese people a lot of support during their previous struggle for national liberation and their current process of construction and development. He said that Denmark’s official development assistance (ODA) for Vietnam has been contributing positively to efforts to reduce poverty and develop the country’s infrastructure.

The State president stressed that during its national construction and development process, Vietnam wants to strengthen cooperation with all countries worldwide, especially traditional friends such as Denmark. He called on Danish investors to invest more in Vietnam and urged both countries’ ministries and sectors to boost exchanges to provide more opportunities for cooperation in this field.

Queen Margrethe expressed her admiration for Vietnam’s socio-economic development in recent years. She stated that the Danish royal family and Danish government attach a great deal of importance to the visit, and representatives from 70 major Danish businesses who are seeking to set up economic ties with Vietnamese partners.

President Triet and Queen Margrethe discussed measures to promote bilateral cooperation in the areas of culture, and climate change response.  Mr Triet told the Queen that Vietnam is highly concerned with this issue because it is one of the countries most vulnerable to it. He said that Vietnam is looking for more assistance from Denmark in this field and it will support the world conference on climate change to be held in Copenhagen this December.

On the occasion, Queen Margrethe II invited State President Triet to officially visit Denmark. Mr Triet accepted the invitation.

The same day, the Danish queen met with Vietnam National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong, and laid wreaths at the Monument to the Revolutionary Martyrs, and visited the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum.
