On February 21, State President Nguyen Minh Triet paid a New Year visit to 100-year-old married couple Le Viet Tien and Nguyen Thuy Lan, who are both revolutionary veterans.

Mr. Triet praised their war-time contributions to the Vietnamese revolution and wished them good health and longevity to set a bright example for younger generations.

Mr. Tien and Mrs. Lan had already gone into the services for ten years before the August Revolution in 1945 and were captured nine times during the period they were operating for the former Saigon-Gia Dinh revolutionary force.

After national liberalization day, they moved to Hanoi, where Mr. Tien continued to work for the People’s Army General Staff and his wife for the women’s union until their retirement when they were both honoured with orders and medals in recognition of their contributions to the revolution.
