Nguyen Hoang Son, chairman of the provincial People’s Committee briefed Mr Triet on Binh Duong’s achievements in 2009, saying the province has taken effective measures to ride out the economic downturn in 2009 and achieve its sustained growth.

Notably, Mr Son said, the GDP increased by 10.3 percent against 2008; exports hit US$6.9 billion (up 5.8 percent); budget revenues fetched nearly VND13 trillion (up 10 percent), and the rate of poor households fell by 2 percent to 3.45 percent.

Mr Triet acknowledged Binh Duong’s progress in industrial development, considering this a correct policy to spur local economy to further growth. He reminded the province to develop hi-tech industries and train human resources to meet the increasing demand of society.

He proposed that the locality develop top-notch services, such as finance, banking, insurance and information technology to create high added value for its economy.

President Triet visited and presented gifts to heroic Vietnamese mothers and war veterans in Thuan An district and Thu Dau Mot town.
