State President Nguyen Minh Triet met with more than 50 cadres of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCMCYU) at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi on (March 24) to mark the 80th anniversary of HCMCYU.

The outstanding senior and young CYU cadres represent a Vietnamese generation of heroic, resilient, and creative patriots who have devoted their entire lives to the revolutionary cause.

President Triet expressed his delight at meeting again with the senior CYU leaders and affirmed that the young generations are the pioneer forces of movements. During struggles against colonialists and imperialists, the youth were ready to sacrifice themselves for the cause of national independence. Today, they are also contributing greatly to national construction and development.

Mr Triet said he hopes the young generation will promote its tradition of patriotism and creativeness in building a more prosperous country as late President Ho Chi Minh wished.

*** An award ceremony for 80 outstanding CYU cadres was held at President Ho Chi Minh Square on the same day. This is part of activities to mark the 80th anniversary of HCMCYU.

The annual award aims to honour and encourage CYU cadres to make more efforts in studying, working and building a stronger youth unions at grassroot level.

Of the 80 outstanding cadres, 13 belonged to ethnic minority groups. The youngest cadre is 17-year-old Duong Khanh Huyen, a CYU secretary of Chu Van An Secondary School in Hanoi.

One of the 80 awardees, Nguyen Dao Minh Huy, said CYU cadres should find a suitable strategy to attract youth to get involved in movements. He said his project has attracted more than 40,000 students and pupils to join which further helped dealing with violence in schools.
