Mr Triet is accompanied by Nguyen Van Chien, head of the Presidential Office, Minister of Education and Training Pham Vu Luan and several other State and Government officials.
By May 2010, the Lao government licensed 219 Vietnamese-invested projects capitalized at over US$2.4 billion. Two-way trade in the first half of this year hit US$212 million, a year-on-year increase of 8 percent.
The two countries have agreed to complete the upgrade of their border markers by 2014.
Vietnam and Laos have worked closely at international forums such as the United Nations, the community of French-speaking countries (Francophonie), the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), as well as within regional cooperation frameworks, namely the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS), the East-West Corridor, and the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Development Triangle.
After Laos, Mr Triet will pay a State-level visit to Cambodia at the invitation of King Norodom Sihamoni from August 26-28.
