Speaking at the ceremony, President Triet called on the whole Party and people to engage in planting trees and protecting forests to meet requirements of socio-economic development and national defence. He asked local authorities and leaders of relevant ministries and departments to pay more attention to tree planting and forest protection in order to develop the forestry sector into an important economic sector, contributing to national development.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s report, 142 million trees were planted and forest covered 37 percent of total national areas last year. Hanoi planted more than 190,000 trees and targets to plant more than 150,000 trees this year.

On the occasion, President Triet offered incense at Soc Temple and visited the Buddhism Institute.
