State President Luong Cuong hosted a reception in Hanoi on March 24 for Azerbaijani Prosecutor General Kamran Bayram Aliyev, who is on a working visit to Vietnam.
Welcoming his guest, Cuong congratulated Azerbaijan on its achievements in maintaining political and social stability and driving economic development, which have enhanced its role and position on the international stage. He reaffirmed that the Vietnamese people always appreciate the invaluable support from the Soviet Union, including Azerbaijan, during Vietnam's struggle for independence and reunification, as well as in its present-day national development.
Cuong emphasized that Aliyev’s visit holds great significance in reinforcing the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Azerbaijan and boosting cooperation between their judicial bodies. He expressed hope for closer bilateral ties, paving the way for mutually beneficial collaboration across various sectors.
For his part, Aliyev showed his elation at the flourishing Vietnam-Azerbaijan relations. He recalled President Ho Chi Minh’s visit to Azerbaijan in 1959, which laid the foundation for the enduring friendship between the two nations.
Concerning his meeting with representatives of Vietnam’s Supreme People's Procuracy, Aliyev noted that the two sides had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation, expected to further deepen their ties. He added that his delegation's visit provided an opportunity to exchange experience, step up cooperation, and gain a deeper understanding of Vietnamese culture, history, and hospitality.
President Cuong reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to boosting ties with traditional friends, including Azerbaijan. He highlighted that many Vietnamese alumni trained in Azerbaijan have become key officials in various ministries and sectors, serving as bridges of friendship between the two nations.
Agreeing with his guest’s views, Cuong said that Vietnam pledges to build a professional, modern, fair, disciplined, and incorruptible judiciary that serves the country and its people, an essential aspect of strengthening the socialist rule-of-law state. He noted that Vietnam is streamlining its political system, including the judicial sector, to meet the evolving demands of national development and defence.
Applauding the MoU signed between Vietnam’s Supreme People’s Procuracy and Azerbaijan’s General Prosecutor's Office, Cuong said the document provides a crucial legal foundation for cooperation. To ensure more practical and effective collaboration, he suggested regular delegation exchanges at all levels to enhance mutual understanding and friendship. He also called for closer cooperation in training and capacity-building for officials and prosecutors, along with mutual support at multilateral forums where both countries are members.
Cuong expressed confidence that this visit would mark a positive breakthrough in judicial cooperation, contributing to stronger and more effective ties between Vietnam and Azerbaijan.
