State President Nguyen Minh Triet on November 21 granted the title of Labour Hero to teachers from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Sciences.

Addressing the ceremony, State President Triet highlighted the university’s creative activities for teaching and conducting scientific research in order to improve the quality of education and training, and provide talent to serve national development.

President Triet emphasized that the university’s teachers and lecturers should continue to promote the tradition of studying and teaching by sending students and teachers to foreign countries to gain more experience. He also expressed his wish that the university will boost research and application so universities can cooperate with each other as well as with enterprises.

He also encouraged the university staff to build a strong Party committee, trade union and youth union as these are the cradles for good teaching and studying. 

HCM City University of Natural Sciences has been operating for nearly 70 years with many leading professors in the natural sciences field. The university currently has nine faculties specializing in 15 different fields and offering 52 Bachelor of Science degree programmes, 32 Master’s and Doctoral programmes and 14 training centres which have trained many talents for the nation in the past and will continue to do so in the future.

*** Meanwhile, the same day, a ceremony was held at the Huynh Thuc Khang High School in central province of Nghe An to mark the 90th anniversary of its establishment and receive title of the Labour Hero in the Renewal (Doi Moi) process.

Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan highlighted the school’s teachers who have been devoted to their students and education and training over the past 90 years.  He expressed his wish that both teachers and students at the school will continue to promote the tradition of learning to deserve the tile of Labour Hero granted by the State President.

Over the past 90 years, the school has trained nearly 50,000 students from across the country, many of whom have become national talents in all fields. The graduation rate reached has 99.6 -100 percent while 70-90 percent of students passed university entrance exams.
