State President bids farewell to IMF representative

State President Truong Tan Sang on September 19 received outgoing Chief Representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Vietnam Benedict Bingham.

President Sang praised Benedict Bingham’s efforts as well as the close cooperation between IMF and Vietnamese concerned agencies over the past time.

He stressed that the agencies have effectively managed the macroeconomy thanks to active support from IMF, lifting Vietnam from a country of shortages to a developing nation with enormous potential for international cooperation.

However, Vietnam is facing snags in stabilising the market and the macroeconomy, as well as ensuring social welfare, he said.

The state leader expressed his wish that IMF would continue to work closely with Vietnamese ministries and agencies to provide effective and practical policy consultancy and help Vietnam successfully renew its growth model and restructure the economy.

For his part, Benedict Bingham thanked Vietnamese ministries and agencies for having created conditions for IMF to offer advice on macroeconomic management.

Both expressed their trust in the IMF Chief Representative successor, Sanjay Kalra, during his upcoming tenure in Vietnam.
