State President Nguyen Minh Triet on January 22 attended a conference to review the Ho Chi Minh City Committee for Solidarity with Catholics' activities.

Speaking at the conference, President Triet congratulated Catholic followers on their achievements and contributions to the nation’s development.

In 2010, the municipal Committee for Solidarity with Catholics has encouraged the Catholic community to uphold the traditional solidarity to build up cultural lifestyle in the residential areas and participate in charity work.

He also talked about his meeting with Pope Benedict XVI during his visit to Vatican in December 2009, saying it had opened opportunities for the cooperation between Vietnam and the Vatican.

The Committee’s President, Priest Nguyen Cong Danh, expressed his thanks for President Triet’s attention and assistance to Catholic followers so they could contribute more to the nation’s development.
