Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Sri Lanka’s Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody highlighted the significance of the establishment of the Sri Lanka-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group, saying it will help strengthen bilateral ties for mutual benefits.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Ton Sinh Thanh spoke highly of the group and described it as a new developmental step in the two countries’ traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation. The group will make active contributions to boosting two-way trade in the future, he said.

Ambassador Thanh gave his thanks for the valuable support from Sri Lanka during Vietnam’s past struggles against foreign invaders as well as in the current development process. He affirmed that Vietnam is willing to cooperate with Sri Lanka in various fields.
