The arrest of Le Cong Dinh was made following existing orders and procedures and according to the Vietnamese law, said Foreign Minister spokesperson Le Dung on June 17.

Mr Dung was responding to reporters’ questions on Vietnam’s reaction following a statement made by the spokesperson of the US Department of State and some misleading information related to the arrest.

Le Cong Dinh broke Vietnamese law by colluding with some elements overseas in an attempt to sabotage the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, said Mr Dung citing information from the Ministry of Public Security.

He affirmed that the consistent policy of the Vietnamese state is to guarantee its citizens’ rights to freedom of speech and expression and encourage the people to give opinions and actively engage in all aspects of life.

As in any country, all law-breaking activities are dealt with according to the law, said the spokesperson.
